Description
Welcome to Module Three of Introduction to Healthcare. Following the rules of grammar is an important skill that requires continuous awareness
and practice. As you progress up the career ladder, you will increasingly be required to speak and write using grammar correctly and effectively.
Many workplace documents have spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors that you may have already seen.
Remember studying grammar in school when you were younger? You may remember that English
grammar seems complicated. There are many things to think about: parts of speech, use of punctuation, spelling, types of sentences and clauses,
and the functions of various parts of a sentence. Some people feel discouraged about tackling the big, complex world of English grammar—but
you don’t have to feel discouraged. We are here to help you.
The purpose of this module is not to teach you every aspect of grammar, but to give you
what you need to be successful at work. There is not enough time to teach everything. Besides, if you are committed to improving your grammar,
you probably already know that it will take more than 2 weeks! Instead, you will learn about the common grammatical stumbling blocks to
effective communication that occur often in speaking and in writing so you can avoid them in your work and daily life.
Objectives
By the end of the module, you will be able to:
1. Understand common grammar rules
2. Identify and avoid some of the most common grammatical errors in workplace documents and in spoken communication
