Tess, a native of the Philippines is in her mid-40’s. When she joined the staff of St. Rita’s, she did not have her GED and struggled with the language barrier. The first time Tess tried to enroll in SAW, she learned that she needed to brush up on her reading skills before pursuing continuing education.
“I thought I don’t have a chance to advance,” she said. “Then my coach got me a tutor. She gave me a second chance!” |

SAW helped her create a career plan and take action. After graduation, she enrolled in a state program to become a Nurse Aide. Today she interacts with patients by providing clinical care and ensuring they are treated in a safe environment.
“SAW helped me understand medical terminology. Before I heard the words but didn’t understand them. I now can see myself working as an RN-- my goal is to work with patients on the Rehab floor,” says Tess. “SAW gave me confidence to pursue college and a career. I am so grateful to my hospital for their concern and dedication to their employees.”
