SAW 2.0 was designed with an eye on HCAHPS. Patients may soon be choosing your hospital based on these patient satisfaction scores. How one communicates has the highest impact on overall rating, and when patients rate nurse communication, they may not distinguish between nurses and nursing attendants. SAW2.0 will help employees master workplace communication, and new education modules address patient safety and satisfaction.
The revised course also supports Joint Commission national patient safety goals. Content now includes: improved accuracy of patient identification; improved effectiveness of communication between caregivers; and improved recognition and response to changes in a patient’s condition. SAW 2.0 reinforces that ALL hospital employees play a critical role in ensuring patient safety through activities and group discussion on these principles.
Steve Raymond, Director, Leadership & Staff Development at University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers says this of the changes, “The new module on patient safety and satisfaction is on target and extremely timely. In fact, as of this very morning, the Joint Commission surveyors are at our facility and their entire focus is centered around patient safety and satisfaction. Providing SAW students with a basic understanding of these two concepts will only enhance our ability to demonstrate our commitment to "Patients and Families First" while making the ideal patient experience a reality.”
SAW 2.0 is the result of five years of excellent customer feedback that the CLC team believes will take SAW to the next level and help the Company achieve its vision to expand the number of adults who are able to achieve the American Dream. CLC CEO Lynn Fischer says that, “Since 2002, there have been 9500 School at Work students at 425 hospitals throughout the U.S. The cost and quality breakthroughs in the new release are very significant. We look forward to working hand-in-hand with progressive healthcare employers to serve tens of thousands more hard-working entry-level employees who desire a brighter future.”
Accelerated learning design principals have been applied to maximize knowledge retention. SAW 2.0 includes a combination of strategically placed activities designed to engage students and create an active learning environment. CLC Vice President Carol Coulter said, “SAW 2.0 will be delivered in a “real-world” style, meaning that students apply key learning points covered in the training to various activities that are aligned with the course objectives. Practice and feedback sessions are used throughout the learning process with a final performance assessment in the end to increase retention of the subject matter.”
The Catalyst Learning team is eager to share more information regarding this exciting announcement and is planning a series of informational webinars to answer any questions. In the meantime FAQs and a simple reference chart illustrating the contrasts between the new and old SAW may be found here:
Thank you for your continued belief in the hidden potential in your entry level employees and for your continued investment in them. The launch of SAW 2.0 is an important milestone in CLC history, and we are excited to share this moment with you. Together, we are improving lives and helping more employees build their career ladder in healthcare!
