The Career and Learning Plan (CLP) is the heart of the SAW process. It is a written plan developed by the student. It helps the employee identify and achieve personal career goals through self-assessments and other exercises. The workbook, CLP Center, and mentors help develop the plan.
The CLP Center is an online resource area that students access as they complete their individual plan. The CLP Center has several tools that enhance the career exploration process: an extensive Career Interest Survey helps identify career paths; a Research area provides access to a jobs database that includes videos and crucial information such as compensation and education requirements; professional development tools augment the job shadowing and interviewing experience; expanded Resume Builder functionality helps ensure students are armed with a professional-looking document that will attract the attention of hiring managers.

The CLP marries the hospital's workforce needs with the employee's goals. Employees will:
- Assess current job, skills, and personality
- Begin the important task of building a resume
- Research career steps and financial aid options
- Learn about advancement opportunities at the hospital
- Identify personal barriers and work to eliminate them
- Participate in job shadowing exercises to strengthen the professional network
- Plot next steps
