Most advanced occupations in the healthcare industry require education beyond a high school diploma. One-third of SAW students enroll in local continuing education programs within 90 days of completing the SAW session. Of these students, 67% enroll in a healthcare-related certificate or degree program.

Leroy Grant, a Surgical Care Technician at Bon Secours Richmond Hospital, epitomizes the SAW mission.  In 2005, Leroy began his career at Bon Secours St. Mary’s in Environmental Services.  While participating in SAW, Leroy connected with mentors who provided the guidance needed for his promotion to Patient Care Associate.  In May 2008, Leroy obtained certification as a Surgical Care Technician, which brings him one step closer to realizing his goal of becoming an RN.  Currently, Leroy is enrolled in the Nursing Program at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.
